When it comes to choosing your wedding cake, really you can have anything that you want. It doesn't have to be just like everyone else's either. As I planned my own wedding, I was determined to have a unique wedding, which included finding a unique wedding cake. I wanted everything to be about me and my husband, which meant that the cake needed to be something we wanted.

Today there are so many different cake options available and it's easy to find a cake that is non-traditional. As I planned my wedding, I found many different cake ideas that were intriguing. Cupcake Wedding Cakes - One beautiful idea I saw looking for a unique wedding cake was a cupcake wedding cake. This is such a cool way to have cake at your wedding and it definitely means you won't have to spend a lot of time actually cutting the cake. Cupcake wedding cakes are easy to serve and they aren't messy either. You can use special wracks to stack the cupcakes so they can be in layers, just like a regular cake would be. Consider having icing on the cakes in the color of your wedding colors. This is a fun way to eat cake at the wedding.

Pies Instead of Cake - Of course, you don't even have to go with cake at all. One interesting idea I found while trying to find a unique option for my own cake was pies that were arranged to actually look like a wedding cake. They can be decorated so they look beautiful and you can have them put in tiers so they look like cakes. This is a great option for people who aren't big fans of cake in the first place.

Interesting Shapes - If you want a unique wedding cake, another option I came across looking for the perfect cake is cakes that come in interesting shapes. Traditional cakes are usually round, but you can come up with many different shapes today. There are cakes that use square tiers, cakes in octagon shapes, and some are not even tiered. I've even seen star shaped and basket shaped cakes that looked incredible. I actually decided to go with a heart shaped cake for my wedding with smaller heart cakes on each side and they looked terrific.
